Ondi Timoner interview for the Mamalode Podcast

JungletownIn the aftermath of the horrible wildfires that destroyed much of Los Angeles earlier this month, I’ve been reading many accounts of people who lost their homes. This morning, I came across an article in Variety about filmmaker Ondi Timoner, who sadly lost her home in Altadena. I had the opportunity to interview Ondi back in 2017 for the Mamalode Podcast. Reading the article, I went searching to see if the interview was still available. Having found it, I thought I’d post it here.

I did 12 episodes of the Mamalode Podcast. For the first few, I managed to stay off the microphone (where I prefer to be). I worked as the producer, organizer, recorder, and recruited a great intern from the School of Journalism at the University of Montana to be the interviewer. The whole thing was very scrappy and DIY, which made it a lot of fun for me. When the intern graduated, I kept it going for a while, and did some interesting interviews with interesting people. Ondi Timoner is absolutely one of those people.

The project Ondi was actively promoting at the time was her 10-part docu-series Jungletown about  Kalu Yala, entrepreneur Jimmy Stice’s 500-acre development in the Panamanian Rainforest. The entire series is currently available on YouTube.
